Finding a room in Singapore is not quite easy specially if you’re on a tight budget. Some kababayan I know here live in a shared whole HDB apartment or condo, in most cases they only look for a room to rent because renting a whole flat is not advisable because of its relatively high price. In searching for room rent, there is also some particulars that a would-be-tenant might want to consider. Here I just made my own list, because I am also on a hunting for a room to rent :).
- Proximity to main transportation (eg. MRT, Bus)
- Rental price plus if PUB is included or excluded
- With or without A/C (it depends to your preference or budget so to speak, but I prefer those with A/C)
- Washing machine
- Cable, Internet Access
- Can Cook (optional, most people choose to eat at the hawker’s center but I sometimes want to cook.)
Most newbies here me included prefer to live near or within the vicinity of an MRT station because here in Singapore MRT is the most widely use and efficient means of transportation. Of course buses and taxis are also efficient means tranportation too, but because of the unfamiliarity of the place to a newbie like me, therefore they will opt for the easiest means of transportation which is the MRT.
So is there anyone out there has a vacant room for me?
